Dentists – Mandatory Hours

To renew a dental license, a dentist must take a minimum of 40 hours of continuing education in the biennial licensing period preceding renewal, including ten mandatory hours:

  • 3 hours in CPR
  • 3 hours in pharmacology and internal medicine
  • 1 hour in professional ethics and New Jersey law
  • 1 hour in prescription opioids
  • 2 hours in infection control and prevention

DEA 8-Hour Mandatory Training

All DEA-licensed prescribers nationwide, including dentists, are subject to a one-time 8-hour opioids training requirement per federal congressional mandate (MATE Act). If you are a DEA-licensed dentist, these 8 hours are required for your next renewal occurring on or after June 27, 2023.   View Required Courses
