Instructor: Dr. Virgil Karnatz DDS

It is estimated that there are more than 40 million people in the United States who are considered to have one or more disabilities, and they all need proper dental care. These patients are at an increased risk for caries and periodontal disease. There are various steps a dental office can take to make visits easier and less stressful for disabled patients.

Office procedural steps, dental treatments, and medications are areas of focus when tailoring care for these patients. This class will discuss how dental offices can improve accommodations and procedures for disabled patients and comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

In this course we will discuss:

  1. Office compliance/new updates with Americans with Disabilities Act.
  2. Dental treatment for patients with autoimmune disorders.
  3. How organ and bone marrow transplant patients are susceptible to infection and drug interactions.
  4. Accommodations for patients with neurodegenerative disorders (like Parkinson's, Cerebral Palsy, Stroke and Dementia).
  5. Considerations for in-office and home care for patients with spinal cord injuries.
  6. How to address dental problems for patients with Down Syndrome.
  7. The differences and procedures for treating your patients in hospital/health care facilities.

About Live, Interactive Continuing Education Webinars

A live, interactive webinar is similar to attending a continuing education seminar in your community, except that you attend via your computer. Each course is done live in a format that allows your participation. Anyone who has access to a computer that can play sound can participate in an ACES webinar. No special computer knowledge or equipment is required to participate in our webinars. When you enroll in any ACES course, you will be sent an email with complete information on how to join the webinar and a copy of the course syllabus. At the conclusion of your live webinar, you will complete a course examination online. You will then be able to print your continuing education certificate from your computer.
