Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a very common and underdiagnosed medical condition. Although OSA is a medical condition, it can often be successfully approached by the dental team. This course will review the factors that can often lead to OSA; including anatomy, body weight and lifestyle factors. It will also discuss diagnostic methods for screening patients with OSA and will review the latest treatment modalities available for successfully dealing with this important medical problem.
After completing this course, the clinician will be able to:
- Learn how to identify patients with potential OSA
- Understand the causes of OSA and snoring
- Describe treatment options for OSA<
- Learn terminology to communicate with the physician
- Understand the anatomy of the mouth and neck and how it plays a role in OSA
- Describe how to examine for OSA
- Learn the importance of facial growth and development in sleep apnea
