3 LIVE CE UNITS

Instructor: Jessica Glover, RDH, COM, QOM

The dental office is often the very first place where early signs of pediatric airway and myofunctional disorders are visible, and the dental team has a powerful opportunity to change the course of a child’s life. This course empowers dentists, orthodontists, dental hygienists and dental assistants with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to recognize the subtle but critical signs that something deeper may be impacting a child’s facial growth, development, and overall health. Participants will learn how to effectively screen for airway and myofunctional disorders during routine appointments, understand when and how to refer for specialized care, and proactively become part of the solution. By integrating airway and myofunctional screenings into everyday practice, dental teams can be the catalyst for early intervention and interdisciplinary collaboration – elevating patient care to a new level.

In this course the clinician will learn to:

  • Recognize signs and symptoms of pediatric airway and orofacial myofunctional disorders in dentistry.
  • Understand the impact of mouth breathing and poor oral posture on the development of the cranio-facial-respiratory complex.
  • Perform basic screening techniques for airway and myofunctional issues.
  • Identify red flags that would indicate a referral to a specialist.
  • Improve communication with parents regarding airway-related concerns.
  • Collaborate effectively with myofunctional therapists, SLPs, ENTs, pediatricians and orthodontists.
  • Integrate airway and myofunctional screening protocols into daily practice.
  • Gain confidence in making appropriate and timely referrals to support optimal patient outcomes.

About Live, Interactive Continuing Education Webinars

A live, interactive webinar is similar to attending a continuing education seminar in your community, except that you attend via your computer. Each course is done live in a format that allows your participation. Anyone who has access to a computer that can play sound can participate in an ACES webinar. No special computer knowledge or equipment is required to participate in our webinars. When you enroll in any ACES course, you will be sent an email with complete information on how to join the webinar and a copy of the course syllabus. At the conclusion of your live webinar, you will complete a course examination online. You will then be able to print your continuing education certificate from your computer.
