TMD: The Dentist and Chiropractor Working as a Team
Live, Interactive Webcast Continuing Education Course
3 Hours Credits
Instructor: Dr. Vera A. Brown, D.M.D., A.R.T. Provider
When diagnosing and treating patients suffering with TMD (Temporomandibular disorders) it is often necessary that the dentist work with other healthcare professionals to achieve an optimal outcome for their patients. The dental professional should consider working cooperatively with specially trained chiropractors in developing a treatment plan for their patients with TMD.
TMD is one of the most complex diagnostic and therapeutic problems in dentistry. There is no one single cause or cure and has become a “catch all” in diagnosing patients who present with difficult facial pain.
This course will review the various diagnostic methods used to evaluate the type and cause of TMD as well as the various treatment options available to reduce the problem. These treatment methods will include options that can be competently carried out by the general dental office as well as those requiring referral to medical and dental specialists. Special attention will be paid to the benefits of working cooperatively with specially trained Chiropractors.
After completing this course, the clinician will be able to:
- Describe the TMJ and its surrounding structures
- Understand TMJ movement and functions
- Describe how to examine the TMJ
- Understand the Causes and Symptoms of TMJD
- Describe the treatment options for TMJ Dysfunction
