Necrotizing Periodontal Disease and Candidiasis Involvements

Live, Interactive Webcast Continuing Education Course
3 Hours Credit

Instructor: Dr. Stanley Kuren, D.M.D., M.S.D.

Course Description:

Necrotizing periodontal disease is a localized, often acute, gingival inflammation usually brought about by a bacterial infection with possible related etiological factors. This disease can be further subdivided into two sub-classifications. If this condition presents as an acute infection of the gingiva without further damage to the periodontal tissue, it is referred to as necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis. If the infection has progressed deeper into the periodontium, it sub-classified as necrotizing periodontitis.

This course will discuss the common symptoms, etiologies and treatment options for patients suffering from conditions such as:

  1. Acute Necrotizing Ulcerative Gingivitis
  2. Acute Necrotizing Ulcerative Periodontitis
  3. Oral Thrush (Candida albicans)
  4. Black Hairy Tongue
  5. Angular Cheilitis
  6. Geographic Tongue (benign migratory glossitis)

After completing this course, the clinician will be able to:

1.     Identify the difference between Necrotizing Periodontal Disease (NPD) and basic gingivitis

2.      Effectively identify and treat Candida albicans (Oral Thrush)

3.      Identify the causes of NPD, Angular Cheilitis and Geographic  Tongue(migratory glossitis)

4.      Understand the similarities and differences in the treatment of these diseases

5.      Understand the difference between Black Hairy Tongue and Geographic Tongue

About Live, Interactive Webcast Continuing Education Seminars:

A live, interactive webcast seminar is similar to attending a continuing education seminar in your community,
except that you attend via your computer. Each course is done live in a format that allows your participation.

Anyone who has access to a computer that can play sound can participate in an ACES webcast seminar. No
special computer knowledge or equipment is required to participate in our webcast seminars.

When you enroll in any ACES webcast course, you will be sent an e-mail with complete information on how to
join the online seminar and a copy of the course syllabus. At the conclusion of your live seminar, you will complete
a course examination online. You will then be able to print your continuing education certificate from your computer.
